==================================================== Title: "The Physics of Galaxy Clusters" Dr. Marcus Bruggen Jacobs University Bremen, Germany ===================================================== When: Wednesday, September 2nd at 3.15 p.m. Where: 2nd Floor Seminar Room ===================================================== Abstract: Recent observations show a multitude of physical effects that occur when active galactic nuclei (AGN) interact with the ambient intracluster medium (ICM). While these effects are widely believed to be crucial for the formation of structure in the universe, they are still poorly understood. This is apparent not only from the persistent debate about cooling flows. Furthermore, the interaction between AGN and the ICM is essential for all models of feedback, which is believed to be the crucial ingredient for the baryonic part of galaxy formation. Here an overview of the current state of observations is given and recent progress in theoretical modelling of feedback is given.
