========================================================================= "Variability from black hole accretion flows and the origin of QPO's" Prof. Chris Done University. of Durham, U.K. ======================================================================== When: Wednesday, 30th of September of 2009 at 3:15pm Where: 2nd Floor Seminar Room ======================================================================== Abstract: I will describe the rapid variability seen from accretion flows around stellar mass black holes, and show how this can be quantitatively as well as qualitatively explained by the changing accretion flow geometry in the truncated disc/hot inner flow model. I will show especially how the prominent low frequency QPO can be made by vertical precession (Lense-Thirring) of the hot flow. I will scale these models up to the supermassive black holes, and speculate on the origin of the AGN QPO seen in REJ1034+396. ========================================================================
