========================================================================= "Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRB): A Personal View and some New Developments" Dr. Demos Kazanas NASA, Goddard Space Flight Center, USA When: Wednesday, 5 April 2006 Where: 1st Floor Seminar Room GRBs had been a totally not understood phenomenon for about 20 years because of the absence of any scale indicating their distance. This changed implicitly in the early 90's with their apparently isotropic distribution on the sky and explicitly in 1997 with the observation of the first red shift that put them at cosmological distances. Since then, 3 more spacecraft have observed GRB and determined their redshifts, spectra and time evolution. After all this progress many issues have been resolved while other new ones have emerged. With hind sight we can now check our earlier proposals and see how they fare in view of the latest developments. =========================================================================
