================================================================================= "HARMONI: a visible & near-infrared integral field spectrograph for the European Extremely Large Telescope (E-ELT)" Prof. Niranjan Thatte, Astrophysics, Univ. of Oxford, UK ================================================================================= When: Monday, 17th of May of 2010 at 4:00 pm Where: 2nd Floor Seminar Room ================================================================================= Abstract: HARMONI is designed to be a work-horse instrument that will provide spectroscopic capabilities in the early years of the E-ELT. It will provide spectral resolutions ranging from 4000 to 20000 over a wide wavelength range (V to K band) covering a 256 x 128 spaxel FoV. I will introduce the E-ELT project, emphasing the massive leap it represents. I will then describe the key science drivers for HARMONI, a summary of its specifications and expected performance, as well as some simulation results and detail the instrument concept, as studied in Phase A. =================================================================================
