Speaker: Brent Groves Leiden University, Netherlands Title: "The SEDs of Starburst galaxies" Abstract: Starburst galaxies are, by definition, bolometrically dominated by recent star formation. In the local universe these galaxies make up 30% of the total starformation rate, and this fraction increases significantly with redshift. Thus understanding these objects is vital if we want insight into the star formation history of the Universe. In this talk I will detail recent models that produce the UV - IR spectral energy distribution of starburst galaxies, combining stellar spectral synthesis, ISM evolution and gas & dust radiative transfer into a self-consistent, descriptive and predictive models.
