========================================================================= "Recent results in GRBs: has Swift solved the puzzle?" Dr. Evert Rol University of Leicester, UK When: Thursday 20 September 2007 at 1:30pm Where: 2nd Floor Seminar Room Abstract: The past few years have seen tremendous progression in the field of Gamma Ray Bursts (GRB): the launch of the Swift satellite resulted in a wealth of new data, the discovery of short burst afterglows and high redshift bursts among the most distinguishable. Interesting, the new results have also put us somewhat back in our understanding of the actual underlying physics: the simple picture drawn up over the past ten years of afterglow observations has become increasingly bemuddled with the input of new data. I will discuss some of the results of the last years, pointing out the questions that have arisen and possible ways to solve these. In the context of the Skinakas observatory, I will also mention some of the observation strategies that can be employed with a 1.3m telescope to address these issues and some other current goals in the GRB field. =========================================================================
