================================================================================= "Black holes in luminous X-ray sources: estimating spin and mass" Dr. Odele Straub Obs. de Paris, LUTH, France ================================================================================= When: Friday, 30 May 2014 at 2:00 pm Where: 2nd Floor Seminar Room ================================================================================= There are currently six known roads to measure the black hole spin: continuum and Fe line fitting, high-frequency QPO diagnostics, imaging of the silhouette, polarimetry and probing the orbital angular momentum of photons. However, there is still little consensus among them. This is partly because these methods are in different developmental stages and partly because their practical applicability is limited to specific objects or scenarios. This talk is about modelling luminous accretion discs and estimating black hole spins and masses in X-ray binaries and ULXs with the continuum fitting method.
